8/3/08 - We started harvesting the second planting of beans today. The Maxibel Haricots Vert and the Rodcor Wax are just about perfect, but the Provider Green Beans should have been picked about a week ago. They're a little too big to sell. But they are still tender and delicious even when they get big.
All of the summer squash are going at full-tilt right now, and as usual, there are always a few that escape detection and end up monstrously huge after only a day or two.
8/5/08 - We've been busy weeding, harvesting and getting orders out for the past month. July was our busiest month ever. We've been getting a huge amount of rain this past month. There have been only a handful of days when we didn't get at least a good drenching shower. We've also had quite a few pretty severe thunderstorms pass through as well. Fortunately none of them produced any hail, but we did have an actual tornado watch for the central Maine area, which is extremely unusual.
Today we harvested the garlic and the onions. They look great, with no signs of the WHITE ROT of GARLIC (Sclerotium cepivorum) that has been showing up in Maine. We're going to be keeping most of the garlic to plant in the fall for next years' crop. We hope to be pretty self-sufficient with our garlic production over the next couple of years, and want to add one or two different varieties that do well up here in central Maine.
8/14/08 - The corn is looking great - the ears are starting to develop and should be ready in another few weeks.

The tomatoes are loving the new Texas Tomato Cages, and it's a daily battle to keep all the vines tucked into them. No ripe tomatoes yet, but loads of nice looking green ones...Even though we haven't had all that much warm, sunny weather, the tomatoes and other warm weather crops are doing pretty well, and at least we haven't had to water things by hand.
8/6/08 - We received our official
MOFGA certification credentials in the mail today! We are pleased and proud to be able to say the Stonewall Farm and Gardens is now a certified Organic farm.

8/16/08 - We've had several days of pretty warm, sunny weather and things are really starting to take off again. We're pretty lucky to be located on a gentle hill, with good drainage, so things haven't been rotting in the fields. Here are a few more pictures of what things are looking like...
