What Can We Grow For You?

April 2008
Fortunately, my predictions about snow on the ground until May were unfounded!  After a week in sunny, warm Las Vegas at the beginning of the month, we returned to more spring like weather.  It's amazing what a few weeks of above freezing temperatures can do to melt the snow and lift the spirits!

As you can see, the only snow left on the ground is where the huge piles were from where we plowed.  The crocus are blooming and the daffodils and daylilies are up.

Even the garlic has sprouted (as well as a pretty nice crop of rocks...)

The ground still hasn't dried out enough to till, so, this being Patriot's Day Weekend, it looks like we won't be able to get the peas planted!

On the 19th I picked up the first part of our seed order at Johnny's Selected Seeds in Winslow, which is always a treat.  I've been looking at their catalog all winter.

The daffodils and forsythia are in full bloom, but the asparagus isn't up yet.  The last weekend in April we got almost 4" of rain!!  Fortunately we had no flooding and the driveway didn't get washed out, but it's going to be a while before we can do any tilling or planting.
